The Colombo Magistrate’s Court today refused to release Minister Mervyn Silva’s son Malaka Silva on bail and further remanded him till November 11 over an incident which occurred at a night club over the weekend.
The Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) is investigating the incident involving Malaka Silva.
Statements had been recorded from eyewitnesses at the RnB night club at Duplication Road in Colombo where Silva had allegedly assaulted a Scottish national.
The police said that initially a complaint had been made at the Bambalapitiya police station saying Malaka Silva was assaulted by a foreigner at the club and that he was admitted to hospital.
However investigations had later revealed that the incident had taken place as a result of the actions of Malaka Silva.
The foreigner was celebrating his birthday at the club with his British girlfriend that night when the incident took place. The Scottish national, identified as James Francis, is employed in Kottawa as an engineer at a construction company.
The CCD had recorded statements from the Scottish national and his British girlfriend, who had also been injured in the incident.
Malaka Silva was later arrested over the incident and Colombo Magistrate Chandima Liyanage inspected Silva in hospital on Saturday night, where he remained admitted under police protection, and ordered that he be remanded till today. (Colombo Gazette)
