Government is confident of Maithripala
The Government said it was confident that Minister Maithripala Sirisena will not join the opposition despite rumors he was not happy with the Government.
Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said that Sirisena was present at the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Central Committee meeting last night and had not made any indication of leaving the Government.
He also said that the SLFP had unanimously backed the proposal to nominate President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Government candidate at the next Presidential elections.
Rajapaksa was nominated by Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva and seconded by Ministers A.H.M Fowzie and C.B. Ratnayake.
Rambukwella said that stories to the effect that Sirisena was join the Government seems to have been circulated in order to destabilise the Government before the election.
He said that reports of crossovers is nothing unusual when there is a decisive election and so rumors to the effect that Sirisena will join the opposition is nothing to be alarmed over.
Rambukwella also said that the Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) which had this week resigned from its Government positions, still remains a coalition partner of the Government. (Colombo Gazette)
