Asked at a media briefing today how he will address the accountability issue if he wins the January election, Sirisena said that the LLRC recommendations will be used for this purpose.
UNP MP Karu Jayasuriya, JHU MP the venerable Athureliya Rathana and MP Rajitha Senaratne were among those present at the media briefing.
Athureliya Rathana said that the JHU will reach a decision over the next couple of days on if it will back Sirisena at the election or not.
He said that if a decision is taken to back the former SLFP General Secretary then the JHU will sign a separate agreement with him apart from the MOU to be signed among the parties in the common opposition.
Meanwhile MP Rajitha Senaratne insisted that more Government members will join the common opposition on a weekly basis despite the Government saying no one will crossover.
He also said that local journalists have been put under pressure by the Government and told not to write anything against President Mahinda Rajapaksa and his family.
The former Fisheries Minister said that the common opposition will hold its first election rally in Pollonaruwa and sign the MOU on Monday. (Colombo Gazette)
