The National Executive Council which met today, has decided to submit key proposals on constitutional reforms before Parliament next month.
Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said that the decision was taken when the National Executive Council met today.
He said that the proposals will include amendments to the constitution in order to curb the Presidential powers, which was a key promise given by President Maithripala Sirisena during his Presidential election campaign.
Dissanayake said that the National Executive Council also agreed to present the bill on the Right to Information Act to Parliament next month.
He said that Parliament approval will be sought to pass the bill on the Right to Information within the month of March.
Dissanayake said that the National Executive Council also decided to appoint a committee to expedite investigations into attacks on the media. (Colombo Gazette)
