SLMC calls for a political solution

The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) says real peace can be experienced in Sri Lanka only once a political solution is presented.

SLMC leader and Minister of Urban Development and Water Supply Rauff Hakeem said that while the war has ended there needs to be a political solution which meets the needs of all communities.

Hakeem said this when he met a high level South African delegation in Colombo today led by South Africa’s International Relations and Cooperation Deputy Minister Nomaindia Mfeketo.

asraffThe SLMC leader and Nomaindia Mfeketo discussed a wide range of issues at the meeting, the Ministry of Urban Development and Water Supply said.

Hakeem told the South African delegation that the public had taken a very important decision at the last Presidential elections and post elections there was a need to ensure unity among all communities.

The SLMC leader and Minister also praised the role played by South Africa in Sri Lanka’s reconciliation process following the end of the war.

Mfeketo is undertaking a visit to Sri Lanka from 24 – 28 February 2015. South Africa has been asked to share with Sri Lanka its experience in terms of reconciliation and nation-building.

This is the first high-level visit from South Africa to Sri Lanka since the new administration of President Maithripala Sirisena took over following the Presidential elections held in Sri Lanka on 08 January 2015.

It is also the first follow-up visit by a South African Government delegation since the visit to Sri Lanka in July 2014 by Deputy President Cyril Ramahosa as the Special Envoy of President Zuma to Sri Lanka. (Colombo Gazette)
