Eight persons including a lawyer were taken into custody by the Borella police under suspicion of producing a defamatory documentary on Sri Lanka Army at a house in Narahenpita.
Five individuals among the arrested are residents of Jaffna Tamils and the other three were Sinhalese. Investigations have revealed that two of the suspects had migrated to India. During the raid, the Police seized the video cassette of the film and the tools and equipment used by them to dub the film to Sinhala.
After shooting the ‘War Crime’ film in India the suspects had brought it to Sri Lanka for dubbing in Sinhala. Police said the documentary contained scenes of torture and killing of Tamil LTTE suspects by the Sri Lankan forces in May 2009, which is portraying the Sri Lanka Army as an immoral, inhumane and atrocious group.
The Victims have claimed that the War Crime film was a documentary to educate the Sinhala public of the way Tamil LTTE suspects and LTTE Leaders who surrendered with White Flag after UN negotiated the surrender were tortured and killed by the Sri Lankan Army in May 2009.
