Northern Provincial Councillor Ananthy Sasitharan has requested the former Congress regime leaders in India to reveal the true situation with regard to the surrender of the LTTE cadres including her husband Elilan at the last phase of the war in Wanni in 2009.
NPC Councillor Ananthy Sasitharan at a special media briefing held at her residence on Friday in Walakkamparai in Vaddukottai said the former Congress regime Minister P.Sivasithamparam, former Indian Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon and President Pranab Mukherjee who was at that time a Minister of the Congress regime knew very well how the situation was handled during the final phase of the Eelam war in Wanni in 2009.
“The Indian leaders who were in power at that time are responsible for the surrender of LTTE cadres to the Security Forces at that time. When the conflict was in progress the LTTE leadership was constantly in touch with the Indian leaders as well as with other world leaders to stop the war.
It was on the advice of India and certain other countries the LTTE cadres came forward to surrender when they were asked to do so by the Security Forces.
Kanimoli, the former Indian Rajya Saba member and the daughter of the DMK leader M. Karunanithi had contacted my husband Elilan and asked him to surrender to the Security Forces assuring that India would stand by him and other cadres. However, now Kanimoli says that she didn’t speak to my husband during the last phase of the war.
So if the Indian politicians deny that they didn’t contact the LTTE leadership at the final phase of the war, they should release a white paper on their denial.
We want justice. Hundreds of young women like me are still clueless about what happened to those who surrendered to the Security Forces in front of us. So India cannot simply say that it doesn’t know anything about what happened at the final moment of the war. Therefore, in the best interest of those who are in search of their loved ones, after the war, India should come forward to give its assistance in finding them, instead of hiding the truth,” Ananthy Sasitharan said.
