Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said white vans used to abduct people have been converted to tourist vans under good governance.
He said the people were today experiencing what the government established under good governance within the 100 day programme while eradicating corruption.
“No one is abducted or goes missing under good governance,” the Prime Minister said.
He was addressing an election rally organised to support candidates contesting the August 17 general election in Katana yesterday.
Prime Minister Wickremesinghe added that as a result of good governance, no vehicle rallies were seen at nomination days.
“There are no cut-outs since the UNP is concerned about following election laws. The Mahinda Rajapaksa government failed to bring down the cost of living saying that no one could do so. The UNP government brought down the cost of living slashing the prices of essential commodities. We never misuse police power or public resources for the election campaign,” he said.
The Prime Minister said Mahinda Rajapaksa reduced government allocations for education, health and social well being.
“The next UNP government will significantly increase these allocations,” he said.
The Prime Minister said while the people of the country were not strong enough economically to get three meals per day, Rajapaksa family members enjoyed four meals per day.
He asked the large crowd if they wanted a people -friendly government or a government which protects their own family without considering the people.
Prime Minister Wickremesinghe noted that drug dealers, ethanol dealers, bar owners, thugs and various other persons involved in unruly activities have been given nomination in the UPFA.
The entire country was in a mess under the Rajapaksa regime. It is the prime duty of the next UNP government to bring the country on the right track, he said.
“Certain UPFA politicians say that they will appoint Mahinda Rajapaksa as the next Prime Minister. It is entirely up to the people of the country whether they elect a corrupt person as the Prime Minister of the country,” the Prime Minister said.
