The Civil Society Collective comprised of 75 organizations including the National Movementfor Social Justice led by Ven. Maduluwawe Sobitha Thera will be signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe representing the United National Front for Good Governance.
The signing will take place tomorrow (28) at 9:30 a.m. at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute.
Former National Executive Council Member, Convener of the Lawyers’ Collective and Lawyers’ for Democracy and Convener of the eight-member MoU Drafting Committee Lal Wijenayake said that the MoU was an improved version of the MoU signed between Civil Society Organizations and President Maithripala Sirisena, prior to 8 January at the Viharamaha Devi Park.
The main and major additions in terms of a slight difference in the original content is the call for the urgent appointment of the Independent Commissions outlined in the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, for the Right to Information Act be enacted and the Recommendations of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission to be fully implemented, he added.
“Representatives of all 75 civil society organizations will be signing the accord,” he explained.
