A group of SLFPers who are supporting President Maithripala Sirisena have decided to skip the UPFA election campaign led by its Prime Ministerial candidate Mahinda Rajapaksa for fear of being booed.

They made the decision as they had observed a tendency of party supporters Maithripala loyalists during the last couple of weeks and not allowing them to speak.

Party supporters booed Nandimitra Ekanayake last week when he tried to address a UPFA election rally at Naula in Matale. A similar incident occurred at a UPFA rally in Moneragala on July 30 put with Vijith Vijayamuni Zoysa and Jagath Pushpakumara, both of whom obtained portfolios from the Sirisena-Wickremesinghe administration being at the receiving end.

Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe addressing a press conference at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute early this week said that he would not attend the UPFA rally led by party’s PM candidate Mahinda Rajapaksa scheduled to be held at Kalutara on August 3 as he had information that some party members were planning to insult him.
