Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Digamadulla District one and only woman candidate K.Annamma, said, history records that the Tamil women have in the past engaged in fighting for their rights in a non- violent struggle to achieve ‘Tamil Nationalism’ and in the process they have sacrificed a lot both directly and indirectly. She also said that women of this calibre have done wonders for the remarkable achievements women.
“Today we need such women to raise their voice in Parliament. To make this reality, I have come forward to contest in the general election in Digamadulla District. If all of you trust me and are satisfied with me you can vote for me into Parliament,” she said.
Continuing further Annamma said “I am leading a life following on the principles of Tamil nationalism giving it due recognition and respect. I understand the pulse of Tamil women and their feelings as I too lost my son during the times of war and am searching for him even now.
I also sought the assistance from the Missing Persons Commission, but all my attempts to find him ended in failure.”
Adding further, she said that thousands of women have lost their husbands during the war and were living miserable lives taking the entire burden of the responsibility of the family.
She also added that the most number of widows are living in the Tamil areas in the Ampara District and that it’s rather pathetic to listen to their tales of woe.
