TNA With 69% Votes Wins Five of Seven Seats in Jaffna: EPDP – 1;UNP -1;

922976_371507369624796_475705882_nThe Tamil National Alliance(TNA) contesting under the house symbol of the Ilankai Thamil Arasu Katchi(ITAK) has registered a significant victory in the Jaffna electoral district at Sri Lanka’s 15th Parliamentary elections held on August 17th 2015.

The TNA polling 207,577 votes amounting to 69.12% of the votes cast has won five of the seven MP seats allocated to the Jaffna electoral district comprising the administrative districts of Jaffna and Kilinochchi.

The Eelam Peoples Democratic Party (EPDP) contesting on its own veena symbol polled 30,232 votes(10.07%) and won one seat.

The United National Front for Good governance(UNFGG) contesting on the United National Party symbol of elephant obtained 20,025 votes (6.67%) and won a seat.

The United Peoples Freedom Alliance(UPFA) contesting on the betel symbol polled 17,309 (5.76%) votes but failed to win a seat.

The Tamil National Peoples Front(TNPF) contesting under the Tamil Congress symbol of cycle failed to win a single seat in Jaffna. The TNPF strongly supported by LTTE and pro – LTTE elements in the Tamil Diaspora polled only 15,022 votes amounting to 5.00%.Media organs controlled and/or influenced by the tigers had promoted the TNPF extensively during the election campaign.

Former members of the LTTE contesting under the spider symbol as independent group no 4 also fared badly polling only 19790.66%) votes.

Though the number of voters in Jaffna district was 529,239 only 325,805 0r 61.56% voted at the elections. Of these 25,496 (7.83%) botes were rejected. Only 300,309 or 92.17% votes were valid votes.
