Samapanthan DEFENDS chief minister Wigneswaren

The newly appointed opposition leader in Parliament R. Samapanthan has come to the rescue of the beleaguered chief minister of the northern provincial council C.V. Wigneswaran.
Wigneswaran SampanthanA majority of the Illankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) Central Committee which met today has called for a firm stand against the chief minister who has been at odds with the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) which propelled him to the coveted post.

When a majority of the ITAK Central Committee had opposed Wigneswaran continuing as chief minister of the NPC, Sampanthan has said that he will discuss issues with the chief minister and try to iron out differences.

Sampanthan has told the ITAK executive committee that he had received a letter from Wigneswaran explaining the latter�s position.

Meanwhile relating to other issues the ITAK hierarchy has discussed on what stand it should take on the upcoming UN Human Rights Council sessions where issues related to human rights violations during war between the government forces and the LTTE will take centre stage.

However talks on the above issue have ended in a deadlock with the ITAK Central Committee deciding to meet again shortly to discuss the issue.
