The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) was directed on Thursday to seek international assistance in further analysing the CCTV footage obtained by them in connection with the murder of Rugby player Mohammed WasimThajudeen.

When the case was taken up, the CID informed court that four DVDs and a CD were handed over to the IT faculty of Colombo University and analysis report had been obtained.

However, the CID further noted that the analysis report by Colombo University indicated that the footage was unclear and told court that the CCTV footage be sent for international analysis.

Accordingly, to ascertain answers to questions such as,

  • who travelled in the vehicle with Thajudeen prior to his murder?
  • What vehicles followed the vehicle Thajudeen was travelling in?
  • Who was in those vehicles and what were the licence plate numbers?

Additional Magistrate Nishantha Peiris ordered the CID to seek the assistance of any country deemed necessary, to obtain clear and unblemished copies of the CCTV footage.

The case was postponed for 25 January.
