Mahinda Rajapaksa visited the prison with MPs Namal Rajapaksa, Lohan Ratwatte and Johnston Fernando.
National Freedom Front leader MP Wimal Weerawansa and leader of the “Piwithuru Hela Urumaya” Udaya Gammanpila visited Yoshitha Rajapaksa at the Welikada Prison this morning (01).
The five suspects including former President’s son Yoshitha Rajapaksa were remanded till 11 February, after being presented before the Kaduwela Magistrate by the police on January 30.
However, Prison Spokesman Thushara Upuldeniya stated that the Department had taken measures to reduce unnecessary visitors to the premises.
“A prisoner is allowed one visit each day and a maximum of three visitors. If there are more visitors they need to consult the Prison Superintendent,” the Spokesperson added.
Visitors are not allowed in the remand prison on Sundays. However, Members of Parliament have the right to visit the prison at any time of the day without prior approval.
Former president Mahinda Rajapake, Shiranthi Rajapakse, Former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapakse, Basil Rajapaksa and MP Namal Rajapakse were present at the court premises. MP’s Johnston Fernand, Rohitha Abeygunawardana, D V Chanaka and Lohan Ratwatte were also present.
