State Minister and Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Parliamentarian Dilan Perera today accused Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe of double standards when arresting people.
Perera expressed disappointment at the arrest of Yoshitha Rajapaksa, the son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
However he said that the justice system needs to take its course and it will decide who is wrong and who is right.
The State Minister was speaking at a public function in Hali-Ela today. He said that while Yoshitha Rajapaksa was placed in remand people like Basil Rajapaksa and Wimal Weerawansa have been protected by the Prime Minister and given bail.
“Kumar Gunaratnam has a passport issue and he is in remand but Wimal Weerawansa and his wife also have a passport issue but Ranil Wickremesinghe intervened and saved them from being remanded,” Perera claimed.
The State Minister said that the law must apply equally to everyone no matter who they are or what political party they are affiliated to.
He said that United National Party Parliamentarian Hirunika Premachandra was given bail in an abduction case since she is a member of Wickremesinghe’s political party.
Dilan Perera said that the Homagama Magistrate must be given credit for the way he dealt with the General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) the venerable Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera.
He said the courts in Colombo could also have been given the same credit if they acted in the same way on people like Hirunika Premachandra. (Colombo Gazette)
