Investigation report files on the controversial coup attempt launched within the Temple Trees premises on the morning of 9 January 2015 are now held up at Attorney General’s department, the Ministry of Law and Order informed Parliament yesterday.
In the absence of the Attorney General’s advice the Government is unable to proceed further, according to the Ministry.
“The extracts relating to the investigations have been referred to the Attorney General seeking legal advice under reference number CR1/08/2015 on 16 January 2016. No opinion can be made as the relevant advice from Attorney General has not so far been received,” reported the Ministry in response to a question for Oral Answer raised by opposition lawmaker Dullas Alahapperuma.
“Further action will be taken by Police to file legal action against the accused based on the Attorney General’s advice in relation to the investigation report. However, no opinion can be given at this moment on the involvement of the former President or the former Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, until the receipt of Attorney General’s responds,” confirmed the Ministry.
