The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) leadership should take the slogans made at the Joint Opposition’s Paada Yatra seriously as it is obvious that they are attempting to take over power through riots, Nava Sama Samaja Party leader Prof Wickramabahu Karunaratne said.
He also said President Maithripala Sirisena as the SLFP leader and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe should take this incident seriously as the Joint Opposition is attempting to disrupt Parliament acting as a Constitutional Council by such activities.
Karunaratne said the activities of the Joint Opposition tallies with the incidents during the 88-89 era.
He made these observations at a press conference at the Nava Sama Samaja Party head office, Slave Island yesterday.
“The Joint Opposition says that they would surround Colombo and take over the power of the Parliament, ” Karunaratne said. “They are attempting to create riots and take over power through terrorism. The government should take stern action against them”.
He said JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake should reveal how Prime Minister Wickremesinghe benefits, if Mahinda Rajapaksa and the Prime Minister have struck a deal as claimed by him.
