The Constitutional Assembly says it received the reports of the six sub committees pertaining to Constitutional reforms.

Member of the Board Parliamentarian Dr. Jayampathy Wickramaratne said the Steering Committee of the Board will table a compilation of the reports in Parliament prior to the conclusion of the 2017 Budget debate.

Dr. Wickramaratne said the Constitutional Assembly will convene next week to observe the six reports.

He added the reports are not the finalised recommendations for the new Constitution and are just recommendations by various committees.

MP Wickramaratne said prior to the conclusion of the Budget debate, the Steering Committee will table its report in Parliament based on several subjects.

He also highlighted that the subcommittee reports are not the same as the reports of the Steering Committee.

The Constitutional Assembly member stated the views of the public and Parliamentarians will be gathered prior to forming the new constitution.

Dr. Jayampathy Wickramaratne added a general debate will be held in January on the report by the Steering Committee.

He said the Assembly hopes to hold a general debate on the six subcommittee reports and the interim report of the Steering Committee.

Dr. Jayampathy Wickramaratne added the drafting of the new Constitution will commence thereon adding there is no final conclusion yet.
