Colombo Additional Magistrate Dulani S. Amerasinghe on 24 January further remanded, till 7 February, the two suspects charged with posting New Year wishes for 2018 on Facebook accompanied by photos of late LTTE Leader V. Prabhakaran and the LTTE emblem.
The two suspects are Dinesh Kumar and Vijaya Kumar.
The probe into the complaint, lodged by Pethum Rasanga, a resident of Ratnapura, was conducted by the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) who submitted details of the case to the Court.
The petitioner had pointed out that the two suspects had opened an account on Facebook titled ‘Vidushan Roxy’ and through it they had conveyed wishes for the New Year with a photo of the LTTE leader while the emblem of the LTTE had been embossed on the map of Sri Lanka.
The petitioner has stated that such actions would lead to the eroding of the peaceful coexistence of different communities living in the country and could result in severe consequences to the country if not nipped in the bud.
The TID informed the Court that the actions of the two suspects contravenes the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights Act, No. 56 of 2007 and thus constitutes an offence.
