Mahinda Rajapaksha Addressing the rally full of Sinhala public, held at Dravindra Seth Vijaya Mendis playground at Katunayake on Monday. in support of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) contesting Feb. 10 Local Government polls, Rajapaksa alleged that the UNP-SLFP coalition was busy dividing the country on ethnic lines in the name of national reconciliation. “Exercise your franchise to register strongest possible opposition to the planned break-up of the country.”

Rajapaksa declared that lasting peace could never be achieved by giving into the demands of Tamils. The former Commander-in-Chief warned of dire consequences if the government was allowed to go ahead with its plans. The former president said Feb 10 vote should be considered as a referendum on three-year failed joint administration.

When Mahinda was the president and his family was ruling the country he had called TNA leader Mr Sambanthan to his office as the president of the country and threatened him to stop asking for equal rights for Tamils or he cannot guarantee his safety indirectly threatening to kill him, Mr Sambanthan had said this in a public meeting last week and asked the Tamils to not to trust Mahinda at any cost.
