Army builds ‘Agraharam’ residential units for Hindu Priests in Jaffna

Six (06) ‘Agraharam’ residential units intended for Hindu priests built with Army expertise were handed over to the owners during a brief ceremony in Karainagar, Jaffna on Sunday (09). According to Army media, these residences for the priests called ‘Agraharam’ were constructed in response to requests by the Kovil (Temple) priests and local government authorities.

Army troops under the Security Force Headquarters-Jaffna provided technical skills and labour for the construction of these six ‘Agraharam’ residential units for the Kurukkal (priests) of the Shivan Kovil in Karainagar, Jaffna. Financial support for the construction was provided by the Karainagar Divisional Secretariat.

The house handing over ceremony was attended by religious dignitaries, Commander, Security Forces – Jaffna (SF-J) Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, state officials and Kovil devotees.
