Mahinda steps down from PM to Opposition Leader

The appeal filed against the quo warranto proceeded by the Court of Appeal suspending duties of Prime Ministry and Cabinet will be examined today (14).
Mahinda Rajapakshe has decided to resign from the Prime Ministry regardless of the verdict of the Supreme Court regarding the appeal. Apparently, the Mahinda’s party has already decided to step back and sit in the opposition’s side allowing the rest to appoint a new Prime Minister and a Cabinet.
Sources closely associated with Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) inform that Mr. Mahinda Rajapakshe will be acting as the true opposition leader in launching the battle against the United National Party (UNP). The meeting held with the members of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) yesterday was addressed by the President that he will be giving the leadership to political campaign against the UNP with fullest effort.
Although Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) members closer to President Sirisena said that Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe will not be reinstated as the Prime Minister, sources closely associated with the President confirmed last night that he has changed his mind in regard to the concerns by now. If UNP’s only choice is Ranil, I’ll agree said the President

MP Udaya Gammanpila says that the UPFA is ready to leave the role of government. Speaking to media after the Supreme Court’s verdict was delivered, he made this statement. “We are ready to leave. Ranil Wickremesinghe has had the opportunity to work as the Prime Minister for the fifth time,” he added.

Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Parliamentarian Vijitha Herath says that following the political conspiracy people like MP Udaya Gammanpila confronted people who stood against it whether are they afraid to go to the courts, provoking their own failure.
