Counting the dead from the war

The ITJP is initiating a movement (from Mon 7 Jan 2019 – press releases attached) to start collecting the names of the dead and disappeared/missing from the whole war in Sri Lanka but with a focus on the final war in 2009 because of the upcoming tenth anniversary of Mullivaikkal. We are doing this again jointly with Patrick Ball of the Human Rights Data Analysis Group.
The idea is for Patrick to come up with an estimate of the total number – and also to create one clean list with no duplicates to be used for memorialisation – that will be shared with those who contribute.
First of all if you know of existing casualty lists (in any language) perhaps you could please ask people to send them to (or ITJP should they prefer).
Secondly we are also asking people around the world to collect more data  – obviously only if it’s safe to do so.
Attached are the data collection forms in 3 languages and some FAQ’s (in the Zip file). They are also downloadable from the ITJP’s site  at and for more see HRDAG
There is a Youtube video from Yasmin Sooka:
