Event: “Tamils of Lanka: A Timeless Heritage”, 18-19 May 2019, London

DATE: 15 May 2019

“Tamils of Lanka: A Timeless Heritage” Exhibition to be opened by the Rt. Hon. Jeremy Corbyn MP.

The Tamil information Centre (TIC) is proud to announce that the second day of our exhibition, “Tamils of Lanka: A Timeless Heritage” will be opened by the Rt. Hon. Jeremy Corbyn MP, leader of the Labour Party and Her Majesty’s Opposition at 12 noon on Sunday 19th May 2019 at Tolworth Recreation Centre, Fullers Way North, Surbiton KT6 7LQ. Hon. Corbyn will be accompanied by Shadow Chancellor Rt Hon John McDonnel MP and Labour team.

Our late and much-missed Executive Director of TIC, Mr Vairamuttu Varadakumar, who was the driving force and inspiration behind our exhibition, first met Hon. Corbyn in 1980s and took the plight of the Tamils to his attention. He also organized Hon. Corbyn to visit Sri Lanka in 1984 to see the situation himself. As a result, Hon. Corbyn has become very supportive to the Tamil struggle for self-determination and justice since then.

Hon. Corbyn and the Labour team will be with us for two to three hours on Sunday from 12 noon, sharing their thoughts and impressions of the exhibition and of current political developments. We cordially extend our invitation to you to join us in the exhibition and in affirming our shared commitment to human rights and to the right to self-determination of the Tamils of Ilankai/Sri Lanka.
