Court order on Gota’s dual citizenship and 2005 Polls

The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court has ordered the Immigration and Emigration Controller to immediately hand over certified copies of the dual citizenship file of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) presidential candidate Nandasena Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) informed the court that the Defence Ministry had informed in writing that it did not possess such folder containing the documents despite of the fact that the Department of Immigration and Emigration had informed the folder is being kept at the Ministry.

The Defence Ministry has informed that the folder is possessed by the Department of Immigration and Emigration.

Meanwhile, the court has issued order to the Government Agent of Hambantota to provide details regarding the polling booth in the Medamulana electorate for the 2005 Presidential Election as per request made by the CID.

The Court ordered the GA to provide the CID with details of officers, employees, party representatives and other relevant information from the relevant polling booth.

Although the name of Nandasena Gotabhaya Rajapaksa is mentioned under the 13305 Ledger of 2005 regarding Dual Citizenship, the CID stated that the computer print copies indicate a different name under that number.
