Devananda urges fishermen to beware of Indian poachers, relatives there

Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Minister Douglas Devananda yesterday (17) warned of dire consequences unless the local fishing community adhered to strict guidelines now in place to prevent a second corona outbreak.

Minister Devananda cautioned the fishing community against having any contacts with Indian fishermen as well as their relatives in India.

Leader of the Eelam People’s Democratic Party (EPDP) Devananda said that they should be vigilant as India was struggling to cope up with the corona crisis though the situation here was much better.

India so far reported nearly 12,000 deaths and yesterday alone it reported more than 2000 fatalities, the highest reported by any country since the outbreak of the disease late last year. It has approximately 350,000 cases whereas the death toll here remains at 11 with over 2,000 cases.
