The Court of Appeal, yesterday (24), enlarged on bail, former Negombo Deputy Mayor Royce Fernando who had been in remand from March 2019 on charges that he had abducted a well-known businessman who had been dining at a hotel in Negombo with his Chinese girlfriend and also robbing Rs 5 million and a vehicle.

The Court ordered that he be released in two sureties of Rs 500,000 each and ordered him to report to the Negombo Police every Sunday.

A Bench comprising Justices Kumudini Wickremasinghe and Devika Abeyratne, enlarged Fernando on bail subsequent to considering a bail application he had submitted.

The Negombo Magistrate’s Court remanded Fernando and since the High Court rejected his revision petition, he had filed this revision petition at the Court of Appeal.

Attorney-at-Law Dharshana Kuruppu represented Fernando in the Appellate Court.
