“President Insinuates He Is Capable Of Having Me Killed Like A Dog”: Harin Writes To IGP

Opposition Parliamentarian Harin Fernando has written to the Inspector General of Police demanding adequate security against a grave threat to his life after President Nandasena Gotabaya Rajapaksa referred to the MP by name in a speech in Ampara on Saturday while recalling that he had killed terrorist leader Prabakaran, a former adversary, “like a dog”.

During his speech, President Rajapaksa seemed to have been seriously angered by a speech made by MP Fernando in Parliament earlier this week in which the SJB politician delivered a scathing attack on the failures of the ruling regime.

Raising the alarm in a sharply worded letter to the Police Chief, Fernando said it was his duty to speak freely on behalf of 2.8 million Samagi Jana Balawegaya supporters. “It is my fundamental right to say what I wish without being summarily executed like a terrorist,” the SJB MP said in his letter.
