Ananda Palitha, Secretary of Jathika Sevaka Sangamaya Petroleum Branch, who was arrested on the charge of propagating a false statement regarding the fuel shortage, has been released on bail.
Palitha was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) las night (21) and produced before the Colombo Magistrate Court today (22). He thereafter has been granted bail by the Colombo Additional Magistrate.
The Union Secretary had stated during a recent briefing that the amount of fuel owned by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation would be sufficient for a limited number of days and that there would be a shortage of fuel in the future.
He was arrested following a complaint lodged with the CID.
