Allegedly threatening a prison medical officer: Probe underway






The complaint lodged by a prison medical officer with the Borella Police accusing MP Rishard Bathiudeen, who is imprisoned, of threatening him has been referred to the Colombo Crimes Division by the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

The matter has been briefed in writing by Commissioner General of Prisons Thushara Upuldeniya to the IGP as well.

The Prison Department is also set to carry out a probe in this regard and an assistant prison superintendent has been appointed for the purpose, reports added. The Prison Commissioner has ordered that a report concluding the event upon investigation be submitted within three days.

The prison medical officer the complainant, MP Bathiudeen and inmates who are witnesses to the incident are to be questioned in this regard. A case will be filed against Bathiudeen before a prison tribunal consisting of a Magistrate, was the MP proven to be guilty, the Prison Commissioner added.
