Opposition Leader writes to President on former MP Ranjan Ramanayake’s prison sentence

Former MP Ranjan Ramanayake, who is spending a prison sentence over contempt of court, is urged by a number of parties to be released on a Presidential Pardon.

Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa writing a letter to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa reminded that Ramanayake is recognised among the public to be a genuine and truthful person, who, as an artist and a politician, had raised his voice for the people.

Many religious leaders, veteran artists, legal experts and the civil society are urging that the former MP be granted the Presidential Pardon, he pointed out, adding that such a request on his behalf would only be fair and reasonable, thereby urging the President to consider the possibility of granting Ramanayake the Presidential Pardon.
