Kumudu Priyanka will put the disappointment in the 100 metres behind her to achieve her best in the Women’s T47 Long Jump at the Tokyo Paralympics on Friday.
Priyanka could not give her best when she tookpart in the T47 100 metres where she was eliminated in the heat. She could produce only a feat of 13.31 seconds in the heat which was won by Venezuela’s Lisbeli Marina, the eventual gold medallist. She clocked 11.97 seconds to win the final.
The athlete coached by Olympian Harijan Ratnayake will compete against a strong field inclusive of New Zealand’s Grimaldi Anna. Anna is the favourite with a seasonal best feat of 5.91 metres.
Priyanka will have odds against her today as she is the only athlete with a seasonal best below five metres.
Meanwhile, archer Sampath Bandara will take on India’s Vivek Chikara in the Men’s Individual Recurve elimination round today.
In the open ranking round held last week Bandara was ranked 23rd with a score of 589 points. Chikara was placed tenth with a seasonal best of 609 points.
