The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) said in a media briefing in Colombo that they are concerned about the further delay in administering the Pfizer vaccine, the only vaccine approved for children between the ages of 12 and 18, to children in that age group.
Accordingly, at a meeting of the covid Suppression Task Force chaired by the President today, their association submitted a proposal to the President to expedite the vaccination of children and to protect them as well as to make schools open by the end of this year. Dr. Naveen de Zoysa, Assistant Secretary of the Association said.
Zoysa emphasized that the Ministry of Health should make a scientifically correct decision as to when and where the vaccines are given to different parties in the vaccination process in the country and it is not a mere arbitrary decision.
