There is a need to administer a third dose against Covid to people over age 60 and people with weak immune systems who have been vaccinated with the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine, emphasised the Sri Lanka Medical Association in a statement.
AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Moderna vaccines should be used for the purpose, the Union noted.
“A booster dose should also be administered in the event that immunity could grow weaker after six months despite the full immunity developed upon vaccination,” the Union went on, adding that people over 60 and those with weak immune systems should be prioritised in this regard.
These groups are at a higher risk for the problem, it added.
