CBSL lifts the restrictions on importation of non-essential goods

The Governor of the Central Bank has announced that it has been decided to remove the restrictions imposed on the importation of non-essential goods. This was stated by the Governor of the Central Bank Ajith Nivard Cabraal while announcing the economic plan for the next six months.

The Central Bank had earlier issued an order suspending the issuance of letters of credit for the importation of a wide range of goods including electrical appliances, food items, and beauty equipment, and made it mandatory to pay 100% on the importation of those items.

The Governor of the Central Bank further stated that as there is sufficient foreign exchange in the country, stocks should not be stockpiled unnecessarily for the next few months.

Thank you
