An Extraordinary Gazette Notification has been issued to the Ministry of Finance and the State Ministry of Finance, Capital Markets and Public Enterprise Reforms with several amendments to the relevant institutional and legal framework. These amendments have been made in accordance with the powers vested in President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa by the Constitution.
These amendments have been made to strengthen the economic process in the country and under this all institutions and functions that have been active so far under the State Ministry of Finance, Capital Markets and Public Enterprise Reforms have been placed under the Ministry of Finance.
In addition, the President has issued another Extraordinary Gazette Notification expanding the powers of the Special Presidential Commission of Inquiry into Political Victimization. A request had been made that additional powers be required to carry out the role assigned to this Commission effectively and accordingly those powers have been granted through a Gazette Notification.
The Special Presidential Commission has been appointed to set up an appropriate mechanism to implement the recommendations of the previously appointed Presidential Commission to Investigate Political Revenge. It is the responsibility of the Special Presidential Commission to recommend action based on the findings of the report issued by the first Commission.
