The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) plays the role of a modernist pro-people opposition rather than the conservative opposition, Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa said.
No Opposition in the country has ever conducted practical welfare and public service in the history of Sri Lanka, the Opposition Leader pointed out, adding that the SJB is ready to change that tradition.
Questioning whether the current regime had ever conducted any public service except protesting and boycotting during its time as the Opposition, Premadasa denoted that the SJB never caters to opportunistic politics as such.
Despite the definition of politics being affiliated with administering the land, the SJB politics involves in serving the nation, he emphasised.
A Drinking Water Filtration System worth Rs. 2.8 million has been established to provide drinking water for the residents of Waguruwela, Buttala, based on a request made by the Chief Incumbent of Sri Poyamalu Rajamaha Vihara Temple in Waguruwela, Buttala Venerable Okkampitiye Gnanananda Thero and the Domestic Committee of the Temple, as part of the ‘Sathkaraya’ Mobile Service initiated by Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa to address the hassles faced by the residents of the rural villages in Sri Lanka.
He added that traditional individualist politics is not the only way to save Sri Lanka from this disaster, suggesting that serving the nation itself is the key to recover the country that is suffering from an economic collapse.
The drinking water filtration system has been vested in the public today (19) at Sri Poyamalu Rajamaha Vihara Temple in Waguruwela, Buttala, under the patronage of the Opposition Leader. Accompanying the residents of the area, Party Secretary General MP Ranjith Maddumabandara, former Health Minister MP Dr. Rajitha Senaratna, MP W.H.M. Dharmasena, former Deputy Speaker Ananda Kumarasiri and a number of SJB public representatives were present in the occasion.
