The youth community who provides great strength to the country are at the tendency of leaving Sri Lanka as the government is playing with the lives of the youth, said Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa, following his visit to Kirindiwela, Dompe to meet with the pineapple farmers of the area today (20), in another phase of the ‘Govi Hadagesma’ (Pulse of the Farmer) initiative undertaken by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) to address the hassles faced by the farming community of Sri Lanka.
Premadasa questioned what would happen when the entire youth who are to take over the future of the country leave their homeland in frustration and mistrust about their future.
The farmer who provides food to this country with his or her own energy without harming anyone has been thrown into an abyss of suffering due to the government’s conduct, the Opposition Leader pointed out.
The pineapple farmers in the area expressed their grievances to the Opposition Leader, saying that they are worrying whether they will be able to settle the money spent on cultivation with the harvest. Suicide may be an option in any event were they unable to repay the debts obtained for their affairs, the farmers grieved.
Accompanying the farmers in the occasion were MP Harshana Rajakaruna, former Provincial Council member George Perera and a number of other SJB public representatives.
