A massive financial scandal has taken place over the importation of nano-nitrogen liquid fertiliser from India, revealed Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Mujibur Rahuman.
Although Rs. 290 million has been given to the local agency to import the fertiliser, only Rs. 90 million has been paid to the Indian mother company in the prices, embezzling an amount of Rs. 200 million, the SJB MP said.
The stolen monies have been remitted to a bank account known as ‘Govi Aramudala’ (Farmers Fund) which has been opened for a fraudulent purpose, Rahuman alleged, adding that the total amount of Rs. 290 million has been remitted to the said account, which was opened on October 18, within a matter of days.
Despite the government proclamation of importing one hundred thousand metric tonnes of fertiliser, only twenty five thousand metric tonnes of fertiliser have been airlifted, he added.
A complaint has been lodged with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) by a group of SJB MPs in this regard as well.
