Weerasumana Weerasinghe to serve as Acting Chairman of Communist Party upon Collure’s dismissal

The Central Working Committee of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka has concluded that Party Member and MP Weerasumana Weerasinghe be appointed as the Acting Chairman of the Party, following the dismissal of predecessor Rajah Collure due to a controversial comment he made aiming the teachers’ struggle.

Collure publicly threatened that he as the Governor of the North-Western Province will be slashing the salaries of school teachers and principals of the province who endorsed the trade union action launched against the ongoing salary anomalies.

Accordingly, Party Vice Chairman Weerasumana Weerasinghe will be serving as the Acting Chairman of the Communist Party from now on.
