Nearly 6000 people affected from the adverse weather






The Director General of the Disaster Management Center, Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe stated that 10 districts and 41 Divisional Secretariat Divisions have been affected by floods, winds and hurricanes due to the recent heavy rains.

The worst affected districts are Badulla, Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, Jaffna, Puttalam, Ratnapura, Kegalle, Mullaitivu, Colombo and Galle. The Director General stated this while briefing the media on the disaster situation today (02).

The Director General said that 1444 families have been affected by the disaster and 5790 people have been affected.

Four deaths have been reported, two due to floods and two due to lightning.

However, Maj. Gen. Sudantha Ranasinghe said that all measures have already been taken by the State Ministry of Disaster Management for public safety. Three houses have been completely damaged and 409 houses have been partially damaged due to the disaster. The three Armed Forces, the Police and the Civil Defense Force have been deployed to repair the damage.

Two relief centers have been set up in Nuwara Eliya and one relief center has been set up in Badulla to provide relief to those affected by the disaster.
