Director of Mass Communication of the Catholic Church Reverend Father Cyril Gamini has lodged a Fundamental Rights (FR) petition before the Supreme Court seeking an order barring his arrest from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The petition cites seven persons including the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Attorney General, the Director of the CID and the Chief of the State Intelligence Service (SIS) as respondents.
SIS Chief Major General Suresh Sallay lodged a complaint with the CID over a comment allegedly made by Fr. Gamini linking him with the Easter Sunday Massacre and based on the complaint the Catholic Church’s Mass Communication Director was summoned to the Department to collect a statement.
It is in this backdrop has Fr. Gamini lodged a FR petition before the Supreme Court claiming that he has received information that the CID is attempting to arrest him.
