Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath yesterday said the spread of coronavirus had increased after lifting of travel restrictions.
He said that the Ministry of Health had increased random COVID testing across the country.
“We are testing people at hospitals and in selected areas. They are subjected to rapid antigen tests,” he said.
Dr. Herath said that various public gatherings, meetings at institutions and other activities that were taking place, especially indoors, were contributing to the spread of the virus.
“We urge people to travel only when it is absolutely necessary.
People must adhere to health guidelines, especially in public buses and train,” he said.
According to the DDGHS 500 Covid-19 cases are reported daily, and the situation is likely to take a turn for the worse.
