Qingdao Seawin Biotech Group Co., Ltd., the Chinese company contracted for supplying a stock of organic fertiliser in question to Sri Lanka, has sent a letter of demand claiming a compensation of US$08 million to the Sri Lanka National Plant Quarantine Service.

The said compensation has to be paid within three days or legal actions will be taken, the company said.

Referring the letter of demand to the National Plant Quarantine Service dated November 05, Qingdao Seawin Biotech Group revealed that they had suffered losses due to the negligent performance of the service and false reports.

The Chinese company further claimed that the organic fertiliser stock sent to Sri Lanka via the Hippo Spirit vessel did not contain Erwinia, a harmful bacteria, and that the stock was highly efficient and very safe.
