The Finance Ministry has reportedly denied the request made by Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Patali Champika Ranawaka to obtain a copy of the agreement signed to hand over 40 per cent of the shares owned by the Yugadanavi Power Plant in Kerawalapitiya to a US-based company.
Commenting on the Finance Ministry’s response, MP Ranawaka emphasised that this is a blatant violation of the people’s right-to-information. The officials at the Ministry have refused to provide a copy of the agreement in writing, the MP revealed.
In the emphasis that the public representatives, as well as the public itself, have the right to learn the content of this agreement, the Opposition MPs have been urging the government to disclose the contents of the controversial Kerawalapitiya Deal before Parliament, only to meet a deadend on multiple occasions.
Meanwhile, certain parties of the government reveal that the Kerawalapitiya Deal has not even been disclosed to the Cabinet.
