Amaraweera warns President might lose two-thirds and simple majority altogether due to ‘conspiracy’

Environment Minister Mahinda Amaraweera speaking to reporters after the Central Committee meeting of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) this (02) evening warned that the President should be aware of the potential danger of losing the two-thirds power and the simple majority in Parliament altogether, in what he described as a ‘plot’ of weakening the President.

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) will be ready to abandon their ministerial posts at any given time necessary, but in any event had a group of MPs decided to leave the government, it would not be a decision made by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party alone, Amaraweera told media.

Nevertheless, the President should be made aware of the situation as this is a plot to weaken him, the Minister added, revealing that there people in the government driven by other motives who want the President to lose the simple majority.

Any decision the SLFP makes at this juncture will not be allowed to benefit the United National Party (UNP), the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) or any other political force, he added.
