Opposition Leader questions CBSL’s move of force-converting Forex

Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa joining the Parliamentary debate on the third reading of the 2022 Budget Appropriation Bill yesterday (10) questioned as to how the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) proceeds with force conversion of the foreign exchange sent by migrant workers and exporters.

Pointing out that the country’s economy cannot be developed by weakening the exporter, the Opposition Leader questioned whether such proceedings can establish an export economy centre. He also accused the government of reversing the economic revival to which fields like Information Technology contribute in its bid to weaken the foreign investors.

Warning that Sri Lanka may soon suffer the consequences of dollar deficit, Premadasa added the country is being dragged down in international credit ratings rather unfortunately.
