The Yugadanavi Agreement being reached on to the hands of a third party may not be a surprise in the event that it was checked by the Cabinet two weeks ago, said Industry Minister Wimal Weerawansa, responding to the disclosure made by Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) and National People’s Power (NPP) Leader MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake in Parliament yesterday (10).
The Minister added that the matter was discussed in the Cabinet and further discussions were to be taken place given that they turned out to be lengthy discussions.
The JVP and NPP Leader tabled the controversial Yugadanavi Deal in Parliament yesterday. Weerawansa went on saying that although the Cabinet had approved the deal to be made with US’s New Fortress Energy Company, the agreement was actually entered into between the government and the NFC Sri Lanka Power Holdings.
He acknowledged the fact that the deal was not meant to be divulged without the approval of both parties until the passing of a period of two years. Such problematic situations have been taken into discussion in the Cabinet, he added.
