PM says rulers are ‘sensitive’ to public woes

By Gagani Weerakoon

An All Party Conference (APC), convened by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, on the request of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, was held last Wednesday (23), at the President’s House, but the main Opposition, the Jathika Jana Balawegaya and some Tamil political parties boycotted it.

The APC took place in the backdrop of the ordinary people collapsing and dying while waiting in queues to obtain gas, kerosene, petrol or diesel and starting to kill each other in their distress.

The President while clarifying that “the APC is a genuine effort,” invited boycotting political parties to join the APC to discuss solutions to the current economic crisis and the country’s future. He said there is no political motive or narrow agenda.

The President urged parties to work together to find solutions to the crisis and move the country forward.
